These are not aspirations or campaign statements. They are the decisions we have made about how MĀERENE is formulated, produced, and brought into the world.
Small-Batch Manufacturing
We produce in small batches. Not as a marketing claim, but as a considered choice. Smaller production runs allow for closer attention at every stage - from mixing to filling to quality checks. It means product spends less time in storage, and more care is applied at each step. We believe that how something is made is as important as what it is made with.
Cruelty-free Development
No MĀERENE product is tested on animals, at any stage of development. This applies to our own testing and extends to our expectations of ingredient suppliers. We do not compromise on this. Cruelty-free development is not a feature of MĀERENE - it is a condition of it.
Vegan Formulations
Every MĀERENE formulation is vegan. We do not use animal-derived ingredients or by-products. Our marine-led approach draws on biofermented sea-sourced actives and plant-based carriers - chosen for their compatibility with skin, not their origin category. Vegan formulation is both an ethical position and, we believe, a scientifically sound one.
Environmental Considerations
We think carefully about packaging. We favour materials that reduce unnecessary waste - minimising excess layers, avoiding mixed-material constructions where possible, and choosing suppliers who share this orientation. We do not claim perfection here. Packaging involves real-world constraints. But we approach each decision with genuine consideration rather than convenience.
Ingredient Selection
Every ingredient in a MĀERENE formulation is there because it earns its place. We do not add for appearance, fragrance for novelty, or include actives because they are in trend. Each component is evaluated for its role in the formulation, its compatibility with the skin barrier, and its alignment with our philosophy of reducing interference. Where an ingredient cannot meet that standard, it is not included.
No Synthetic Fragrance
MĀERENE does not use synthetic fragrance blends. Where aroma is present, it comes from ingredients used within the formulation, including essential oils where applicable.
Considered Formulation
We prioritise ingredient systems selected for compatibility, restraint and long-term skin consideration. Rather than chasing trends or unnecessary formulation complexity, MĀERENE focuses on clarity, balance and thoughtful formulation decisions. For us, considered formulation means fewer unnecessary inputs and a clear reason for what remains.
Locally Produced
MĀERENE is formulated and produced locally in small batches. Maintaining proximity to production allows for closer oversight, slower scaling, and greater consistency across each release. Local production is both a practical decision and an expression of our broader commitment to care at every stage.
